WHAT IS 2PK?
Performance-Parkour is the integration of Parkour’s movement principles and core values within a performance for an audience (live and/or recorded). It also describes the doing, creating, performing and watching entailed in training, rehearsal and devising towards this end. It can be considered a choreographic language. Critical to Performance-Parkour is the desire to communicate beyond the skill of the discipline and to create a dialogue with and within its practitioner community and audience. It does not describe a display or demonstration of Parkour. Teaching 2PK is best (though not exclusively) understood through a study of dance & movement teaching and learning. Dance and Physical Theatre are the most appropriate artforms within which to situate 2PK.
WHAT IS THE 2PK NETWORK?
The 2PK Network was founded at the Art of Displacement Symposium in March 2013. Hosted by the Urban Playground Team with support from Pavilion Dance South West, South East Dance and the Arts Council of England. The symposium brought together traceurs, dancers, choreographers, filmmakers, photographers, students and academics. All agreed that an international network would aid the development of 2PK culture through sharing best practice, research, opportunities and collaborations.
Who are the 2PK Network?
Founders of the Network include the UPG Team (UK), Displacement Parkour (Eire), BeingFrank Physical Theatre (UK), FlowMadness (DK) Dr Julie Angel (UK) and Andy 'Kiell' Day (UK). Co-creator of Parkour and Yamakasi member Malik Diouf is the Network's Ambassador. Dr Belinda Wheaton of Brighton University's school of sport research is an academic advisor. Presenters at the original symposium included Tamsin Fitzgerald (2Faced Dance), Scott Jackson (Train Hard PK) and Sacha Powell (Storror). The Network is supported by the Arts Council of England, South East; by Pavilion Dance South West and by South East Dance.
